Spencer camping trip July 2013

Grandpa Mark planned a really fun and nostalgic camping trip for his kids and grandkids at Moosehorn Lake in the Uinta Mountains. It's the same place he took us as kids every summer. It was so beautiful and Dad put in SO MUCH work to make it fun and nice for us. He brought all the food, cooked all the meals (against our strenuous objections), had most of the gear, made walking sticks with the kids, and was the first one up every morning. Love that great Dad of mine.

It was hard with so many little kids, but worth it to be together. Catherine and Kerry were super troupers. Kerry was still recovering from her surgery last summer still came up for a night. She had just returned from visiting her family in Oklahoma, so the difference in altitude plus then the additional altitude of the mountain, gave her altitude sickness. And Catherine brought Elizabeth (age 3, barely) and Mark (17 months) by herself because Richard had to work. AND she was 7 months pregnant!

Visiting Provo River falls- another tradition.

Moosehorn Lake
We borrowed a canoe from John's cousins and took it out on the lake a few times. One time, we got overly ambitious and tried to fit Steve, Barb, Sam, Lily and Charlie in for a ride. Yeah, right. We capsized almost immediately. We were in shallow water and all wearing life jackets, and after the shock, we all started laughing, except for Charlie. He was pretty freaked out and wouldn't get out of the (now full of water) canoe. We dragged it to shore, Steve and I both losing one shoe in the mud of the lake bottom, and then I carried Charlie back to camp. When we got there, he told John. "We fell out of the canoe. But Steve saved my life. And Mama saved my life."
