For realsies this time

I'm really going private this time. I am finding myself feeling reluctant to publish posts here because I'm no longer comfortable having this blog public. If you have already requested an invite, you are still on the list. This is the last call for everyone else! Send me an email getupandplayblog at gmail dot com.

Look what George can do!

Camping

In July, we headed to Lake Stanley, Idaho for John's family camping trip. The drive up was harrowing (it was a loooong drive and George cried for 85% of it). Once we got there, though, it was so fun to be with our family and just relax and let the kids play. Charlie and George both loved exploring the rocks, dirt, and water, and chasing Zoe (Kate and Jeff's dog) around. Some of these photos are from our phones, but many of these I borrowed from other family members. Thanks, fam!

we used the pack and play a TON

George and Emma having lunch- the high chairs attached to the picnic table came in so handy

Baby Jude was SUCH a trouper!

Emma was newly walking and it was so cute to see her toddling around on the dirt trails

Mark, James, McKenzie and Emily- this inflatable canoe was a big highlight for the kids

George was so dirty and in heaven

The drive was not fun, but at least it was beautiful!

My contraption to keep the sun off of George's face

Our Honda Element (and the new roof carrier) were both packed to the gills- this was our last trip before buying the minivan and we felt crammed!

We all started out in our own spots in the tent, but by the time morning came, somehow Mama was on the edges without any covers and both Charlie and George were snuggled up with 10 blankets. :) They both slept so well, though, I was grateful!

Our little tent city

And the rest of it

This little buddy was so good and he loved the beach.

It was so fun to have some time with these cute girls- we miss them

Grandpa, James, Charlie and Grandma on a little float in the lake

A total highlight of the trip was when Uncle Dave took all the kids on a ride around the campsite in his truck.
Even Baby George and Baby Emma loved it.
On our way home, we were stopped on the highway for about 30 minutes outside of Sun Valley. I guess there's a race  on the freeway for all the Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini owners and racing hobbyists every year. We saw a few fancy cars. :) Charlie and John took the opportunity to take a little walk down the road and I let George out of car seat jail to play in the car.

A really welcome sight after all the driving

Kerry's surgery

My sister-in-law, Kerry, aka the Brave One, She Who Is Like Unto Aphrodite (SWILUA), had to undergo another skin graft surgery this summer. She has very rare (only 7 in the world), congenital skin-cancer patches of skin over large areas of her body that have to be removed in a series of skin grafts. She had barely recovered from her first surgery (summer 2010), just in time for this one.

Fortunately, her medical team had learned a lot from the first surgery, including how to better manage her pain. Unfortunately, this very large graft completely failed and she had to undergo two more surgeries, for a total of three this summer and four in the last two years. (And she's not done yet).

I took this photo the day that Kerry came home from the hospital when she was finally at home to stay. She is such an example of endurance, courage, positivity, and has been an incredible and engaged mom throughout it all. She read a book to Lily within moments of being home.

We love you, Kerry!

Liberty Park

We had such a fun cousins outing at Liberty Park. Catherine and I arrived there with 6 kids between us (including 2 babies and 2 preschoolers) and within 30 seconds, Lily (one of our big kid helpers) got stung by a bee on her foot. Ouchie! We were feeling a little overwhelmed. Luckily, Grandma and Grandpa showed up to add some support. :)

George 10 months

This was a busy month for us. We had Sam and Meg's wedding, your first camping trip, and Kerry had her second skin graft surgery (which ended up not taking, which necessitated two more surgeries).

You turned 10 months old on the Fourth of July. You had a bad fever, so we kept it pretty relaxed.

Survived a road trip (barely!) to go camping with John's family.

Still love the bath and are wiggly and silly, you love to crawl around and try to stand up.

Lots of play dates with Sam and Lily and Kerry, and Catherine and Elizabeth and Mark

Continue to love eating! Favorite foods include cantaloupe, watermelon, chicken, and you love drinking from a straw and eating ice.

eating apricots from our trees

Got you a high chair that clips on the counter and you love being up where the action is next to Charlie. You like to sit in there while I work in the kitchen and we often have dance parties. You love my cheesy moves and you like to dance along.

Started swaddling you again and you fall asleep more quickly (and stay asleep from transfer from my arms to the crib better). I put you on your back in the crib when you are asleep and then you roll over immediately onto your tummy.

Had a play date with your cousins Emma and James while they were in town. We sure miss them!

Chelsea and Mark had a barbecue while they were visiting. It's always fun to socialize with them because all three of us were in the same graduating class, so a lot of our high school friends were there.

Not the best picture of me, but I love the look on George's face looking at all the girls

Catherine and baby Mark were at the party, too

We were so glad we Daddy got to the party from working at his new job in Provo. The longer hours and the commute have been hard to get used to!

Climbing on the dishwasher

You've been VERY attached to Mama and have needed a lot of extra holding and cuddling. There have been many times when you won't even go to Daddy.

Still going strong on nursing, which is a relief, because Charlie had self-weaned by this age.

You love to brush your hair, you're so proud of yourself.

We love this cute little boy!
