I love to see the temple...

In our church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, also known as the LDS church or the "Mormon" church), we build temples. They are places where members of our faith go to find peace from the world, make covenants with God, and partake in sacred ordinances. We also believe that this work must be done for our ancestors, so we partake in these ordinances on their behalf. Because of the sacred nature of the temple, we must follow guidelines of worthiness to be able to enter into one. After a temple is constructed, it must be dedicated to become consecrated and holy. Before such dedication, an open house is held for the general public. Anyone, regardless of membership in our church, can attend this open house. Every temple in the world (there are 146 of them. Click here to see if there is a temple in your city) has had such an open house at one time.

On Wednesday, John, Charlie and I went to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house with several members of our family. It was really special to be in the temple with my loved ones, some of whom had never been inside a temple before. I love going to the temple and I really loved sharing that with them.

The temple was beautiful on the inside- gorgeous chandeliers and artwork- but more than the physical beauty I loved feeling the peace and calm it brings (and this was with hundreds of people around me!)

I was also really impressed by the number of volunteers who were there to facilitate the open house. I'm so touched by the spirit of volunteerism that flourishes in our church and community. I need to do more!

John, Anne and Charlie (check out how CHUBBY Charlie's cheeks look in that Moby wrap. Deliciousness...)

While waiting in line, Charlie needed a little break from the Moby wrap so we decided to see if Emily could fit in it!
