Top eleven pop culture vamps

Again, Andrea
posted about a topic that I found myself wanted to comment on to the extent that I realized I should post about it! (I'm always stealing her ideas!) But after I wrote this list on Andrea's blog, I thought I could flesh it out and put it here.

1-"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (the series)
Great heroic and noble vampires (Angel, then Spike); great action; GREAT dialogue; man, I love this show
2- Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse
I love how Stephenie Meyer took a totally familiar thing and changed it to make it cooler!! (Vampires that glitter in the sun? Excellent!!)
3-Underworld
Kate Beckinsale was badass and the bad guys were scary
4-"The Vampyre" by John Polidori
Written at the same time and place and for the same competition as Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein"
5-"Interview with a Vampire"
So scary and so great- plus Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt (hellooooo!!)
6-"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (the movie)
"Excuse much, rude or anything?"
"Take a chill lesson"
"Get out of my facial"
Valley girl meets vampire- brilliant!!!
7-Bram Stoker's "Dracula"
Haven't seen it or read it all the way through, but a good and scary rendering of the classic tale
8-Transylvania 6-5000
Geena Davis plays a cheesy and overtly sexy vampire and this whole movie is campy and funny!
9-the Count from Sesame Street
"One red car, ah, ah, ah, two red cars, ah, ah, ah..."
10-Count Chocula cereal
Yummy
11- "Once Bitten" with Jim Carrey
Also very campy but funny- it was Jim Carrey's first movie!

I am Pam...

Apparently, if I were on The Office, I would be Pam. Which is good in a way because who else would I want to be on the Office?? Kelly? Angela? No way! But I don't think I'm as painfully shy or repressed as Pam is... I have high hopes for her this season! Take the quiz!

Which Office Character Are You?

You are Pam. You are sweet and likable, but your shyness makes it hard for you to express yourself sometimes. Regardless, you are always there for your friends and will usually come out of your shell to help anyone.

In four hours you can beat Metroid...

Richard and Johnny had the urge to play some Old School Nintendo and what better game to satisfy that craving than Metroid!? John donned his Metroid t-shirt, they busted out one of John's two original Nintendos (he has a back up in case one breaks), and powered up the laptop to find online "hints" (aka Cheats) to help them maximize their time. Four hours later, they had beat the game once. Two hours after that, they were trying to beat it again, this time as fast as possible. They maintained they were doing it quickly just for the heck of it (not because at the end of the game it is revealed that underneath the helmet, Samus is a smokin' hot redhead and if you beat the game quickly enough, she'll strip down to her bikini!) (If you're a 9 year old boy I can see the attraction, but an almost 30 year old man?? Give me a break!) Meanwhile, I used a lazy Sunday afternoon to read a whole book! To each his own (geeky vice)!

Family support is so great!

My mom and dad hosted an open house for people to meet Dave Buhler. It was a really nice event- my mom cleaned the whole house and ordered red and white eclairs, Catherine made a delicious 7 Layer Dip and the whole clan donned Dave Buhler tees! I should have taken a picture of all the Dave signs in our yard that night! It was pretty funny! John's parents, Rick and Sue, stopped by to talk to Dave and support me, too. I am such a lucky girl!

Friends reunion

Amy and Blake have been living in England these past few months and are moving to Chicago in a week, so we took the opportunity to get together before they leave again! It was so fun to have dinner, catch up, get to know each other's spouses and dates and just hang out together!! (We missed you, Mads and Cody!) PS- WOW are my walls GREEN!!

Clockwise from Left: Liz and her boyfriend, Eric; Andrea and her date, Brooks; John and Barb; Susie, baby Evelyn, and Brent; Blake and Amy; Suzanna and Jeris

Simpsonize me!

Found this funny thing to Simpsonize myself. This is the good looking picture I created after some tweaking- the first option was pretty ugly (yes, even uglier than this one).

Welcome Home, Catherine and Richard!

Catherine and Richard pulled into the driveway at 2:00 a.m. on Thursday morning in a giant Penske truck! We waited up for them and had a happy reunion! Later that day, the first item on the agenda was lunch at Cafe Rio with the fam!

A new little girl to brighten the world!

Congratulations to Lee and Savannah who welcomed their first baby, Emilee, yesterday morning! Lee is John's business partner and in the past 6 months they have become some great friends of ours! We went up to the hospital yesterday to meet their darling little girl! We brought a little pink onesie for her as a gift, and Lee and Savannah said it was her first gender specific piece of clothing (they kept the gender a surprise until the delivery!!) She's beautiful!! So much blond hair!! Here's a picture of John soaking up her cute baby-ness!

Richard and Cat are almost here!

I talked to Catherine and Richard on Monday and they were living it up in Chicago- seeing the sights, eating at great restaurants, and taking photos. They were supposed to visit Nauvoo yesterday. Today is their big driving day, from Des Moines, Iowa, to SALT LAKE CITY!! (See their route here)
Woo hoo! I'm so excited to have them come home! My parents are frantically renovating the basement so it will be nicer for Catherine and Richard to live in (short term). And my John is buying office furniture today to furnish his (and Richard's and Lee's) brand new office. We are so excited! John is especially excited for this new phase of Comma Development's (his web development business) to begin! Richard will dive in on Monday, Lee will be back from his new daddy break, and Comma will vault into a new phase of success!!

CHECK OUT MY ROCKER HUSBAND!

Johnny's band, Lola, is now on MySpace and YouTube, and has been entered into The Next Great American Band contest (from the people who created American Idol.)
Lola had an incredible run in SLC in 2004 before the band (Scotty, Garry, Johnny and Ben) decided to part ways. Recently, Scotty and Johnny have reunited to play Lola's songs in acoustic settings and are getting psyched about writing and playing again!

Check them out! (THEY ROCK!)

Holiday= double work

When you work on a campaign, holidays end up being marathon work days. It's always a good time to reach large groups of people and get the word out about Dave! We spent the 4th manning a booth at the Sugarhouse Merchants Fair then passing out balloons in Sugarhouse park. The balloons were such a hit, we decided to spread them out along the parade route for the 24th. We gave out 1500 balloons! It's a pretty easy type of campaigning- kids and their parents come to you!! (If you haven't checked out Dave's website yet, you can see more pics there! There's some awesome ones of me...) And a much deserved shout out to my wonderful family who always supports me in my crazy endeavors, especially my parents and my wonderful, supportive, hard working, talented husband John!!!! Love you guys!

Harry Potter read-a-thon

John's family has an annual Harry Potter Read-a-thon at their cabin. It was so fun to get into the beautiful and much cooler mountains and just relax and read the book. We ate delicious meals, played board games, and napped when we needed a break from reading. We also went to the Brighton branch for sacrament meeting and ran into a lot of friends there!

Photo 1: Sisters on a bench (that's the bench you stand on to reach the zip line)

Photo 2: One of the beautiful peaks that surround the cabin

Photo 3: Mark, Chelsea, Anne, Mom, Dad, Barb, and John (I didn't know if this picture would turn out, but I'm so glad it did! I think it's so cute and fun!)

Photo 4: Me and my Johnny boy (notice John's new "fauxhawk 'do" and my straight (for once) hair. We'd both recently been to the salon, just in time to go to the cabin... weird timing.)
